Before being deployed to Kabul, Thor spent his four month break studying theatre at the University in Trondheim (NTNU). He also got a part in a nationwide McDonald’s television and theater commercial. After completing the tour in Afghanistan, Thor went on to pursue his dream and was admitted to the New York Film Academy at Universal Studios in Los Angeles for a one year acting conservatory program set to begin September 2005.
Force) in Kabul, Afghanistan. He subsequently served for seven months as a combat medic with his original Storm unit when the contract deployed the following year. The picture to the right shows Thor standing atop a hill above the city, known to the locals as “Tomb Hill”. His unit acted as QRF (Quick Reaction Force) and patrolled the city on a daily basis. Being a NATO veteran at age 21, Thor characterizes the experience as "invaluable and eye-opening".
This experience made him realize that acting was something he really wanted to pursue and he promptly switched schools to attend an IB (International Baccalaureate logo right) program in order to become completely fluent in English. He took part in another very successful high school cabaret, acted in his own short film and did a little bit of modeling during his senior year. Thor was also active in the live role-playing community and participated and hosted several such weekend events.
After finishing high school Thor went on to join the Norwegian Army for a mandatory year. Having a natural inclination for leadership, he soon became Squad leader in a Storm platoon (mechanized infantry unit) in the 1st Armored Battalion, 6th Division. During his mandatory year, he signed on to serve on a NATO peacekeeping mission with ISAF7 (short for International Security Assistance
Thor was referred to attend several more auditions including a feature film after the series finished shooting, but at this point in his life he had no real aspirations to become an actor. That happened later when he played one of the leads in a high school cabaret which was awarded “Best High School Cabaret of the Year” in 2001, an award he had to accept in front of fifteen hundred people on well known stage, the “Chateau Neuf”, in Oslo.
